Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime, Galaxy J7 Prime first look
Both the new smartphones have a similar design. They are equipped with fingerprint sensor and will come with full-metal body. The company is also heavily promoting the smart features S Power Planning and S Secure made especially for India. During the launch event, we spent some time with the new Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime and Samsung Galaxy J5 Prime. How did we like these smartphones at first glance? Let us tell you.
Before talking about the specifications of Galaxy J7 Prime and J5 Prime, let us tell you about S Power Planning and S Secure features. These have been designed keeping Indian customers in mind. S Power Planning feature has been made a part of a handset for the first time. It seems that through this the company is trying to benefit young customers.
There are three features in S Power Planning. Reserve battery for phone calls, this feature reserves a part of the battery for calls and messages. Three power saving levels are given in Extend Battery Time. With the help of Forward Call, users will be able to forward all calls to a specified number in case the battery runs out. With Extend Battery Time, users will get twice the battery life than usual. Samsung representatives say that to do this, many background activities in the phone will be stopped. S Power Planning can prove to be useful in normal use. Because we often forget to charge the phone due to being busy.
The second new feature is S Secure which is related to security and privacy. It comes with the option to lock and hide apps. We have also seen the Secure Folder feature in Galaxy Note 7.
Samsung has also provided S Bike mode in both the smartphones. S Bike mode was first launched with the Galaxy J3 (6). For user convenience, Samsung has placed S Power Planning, S Secure and S Bike Mode toggles in the Quick Settings panel.
Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime and J5 Prime with metal body give a strong feeling. Apart from this, both the phones also feel heavy in terms of their design. J7 Prime weighs 167 grams and J5 Prime weighs 143 grams. The front panel of both the phones is equipped with 2.5D round-edge Corning Gorilla Glass which gives it a premium look. The home button is present between the recent and back capacitive buttons. Fingerprint scanners are integrated in the home button in both the phones. The power button in both the phones is on the right side and the volume button is on the left side. The 3.5 mm audio jack and micro-USB charging port are present at the bottom of the phone. The company logo is present at the top of the display of both the phones. Due to the curved edges, we did not face any problem in holding these phones in our hands.
Apart from the LED flash and the primary camera, there is nothing noteworthy on the rear of the phone.
The Galaxy J7 Prime and Galaxy J5 Prime run Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Samsung’s TouchWiz skin on top. Both models will come with a few Microsoft apps preinstalled. Users will be able to remove those apps if they want. Icons for the dialer, contacts, messages and browser will appear at the bottom of the display.
The Galaxy J7 Prime has a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) IPS display that comes with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass protection. This handset has a 1.6 GHz octa-core processor with 3 GB RAM. The screen appeared bright and crisp. We did not face any problem in reading anything on the screen even in direct sunlight.
The Galaxy J5 Prime has a 5-inch HD (720×1280 pixels) IPS display with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass protection. It is equipped with a 1.4 GHz quad-core processor and 2 GB RAM. The display of the J5 Prime is vibrant and bright. In our opinion, the screen of the J7 Prime is better. Both phones support dual-sim.
In the limited time we spent with the Galaxy J7 Prime and J5 Prime, we found that both phones responded well to touch inputs. The phones also worked fast during multitasking. We will be able to tell you in detail about the performance of Samsung’s new Galaxy J7 Prime and J5 Prime only during the review.
Galaxy J7 Prime has a 13 megapixel rear camera with LED flash. Its lens has f/1.9 aperture. It also has an 8 megapixel front camera. After using the camera, we found that J7 Prime took crisp pictures in indoor lighting. The front camera took good selfies. Galaxy J5 Prime also has a 13 megapixel rear camera with LED flash. Its lens has f/1.9 aperture. However, its front camera sensor is 5 megapixels. We found that the pictures taken by J5 Prime in artificial light were very crisp. However, we got complaints of blur at the edges of the pictures. The front camera took decent pictures. Once again we will tell you that to know the performance of the camera, you will have to wait for the review of Galaxy J7 Prime and J5 Prime.
Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime and Galaxy J5 Prime have been launched at Rs 18,790 and Rs 14,790 respectively. The Galaxy J7 Prime has been made available in India while the Galaxy J5 Prime will go on sale by the end of the month.
