Lenovo Z2 Plus first look
This Chinese company has given many new features in Lenovo Z2 Plus. Its price will start from Rs 17,999 and the sale will start from next week. We spent some time with Lenovo Z2 Plus during the launch event. Let us tell you how we liked this phone at first glance.
From a distance, the Z2 Plus will remind you of the iPhone 5S, but once you hold it in your hand, the illusion is broken. This phone with a 5-inch screen will fit easily in your hands. The Z2 Plus is easy to grip due to the curved edges. During the launch, Lenovo official Anuj Sharma stressed that the Z2 Plus has been designed for one-handed use. Fiber glass frame has been used in the Z2 Plus. Talking about the design, Lenovo India praised the Z2 Plus roll cage. It was claimed that it will increase structural integrity and will also manage thermal balance.

The Z2 Plus’ 5-inch display has a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels. The display is sharp and text looks crisp. However, the brightness was lower than we expected. The display looks a bit tired in sunlight. There is no branding on the front panel of the Z2 Plus. The Lenovo logo is present on the back. Below the display is a rectangular home button with an integrated fingerprint sensor. The power and volume buttons are on the right side and can be easily reached with the thumb.
Curved glass has been used on the rear panel, which gives a good feel to the hands. However, it slips a lot in the hands. The two SIM slots are on the right side. At the bottom you will find the speaker grill, 3.5mm audio jack and USB Type-C charging port.
Lenovo Z2 Plus comes with a “uTouch 2.0” fingerprint scanner. It can be used for a variety of purposes – single touch to go back, long touch to see notifications, double press for app switcher. Swiping left or right will let you access the last app you used.
The shortcuts can also be customized as per the user’s needs. In the limited time we spent with the device, we found that the gestures worked fine. However, they will take some getting used to.
The company claims that the fingerprint sensor is 99.7 per cent accurate and that it continuously learns, meaning it will get better with use.
In Lenovo Z2 Plus, the company has used a slightly modified version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. For the Indian market, Lenovo has made Google Now Launcher the default launcher. Users can change the launcher.
Lenovo also talked about the inbuilt U-Health app at the launch event. Z2 Plus has a gyroscope, compass sensor, accelerometer, light sensor and proximity sensor along with a pedometer. Lenovo has tried to make Z2 Plus a fitness and activity tracking device through all these sensors. The U-Health app can be easily tracked with any fitness tracking device.
The dual SIM Z2 Plus has 4G with VoLTE feature, meaning you will be able to take advantage of Reliance Jio services with it. Lenovo explained how people leave the phone to charge overnight. Equipped with a 3500 mAh battery, this phone has a charge cut-off feature, which will ensure that the battery is not overcharged.
The 13-megapixel rear camera has an ISOCELL sensor, PDAF (phase detection autofocus), electronic image stabilization, f/2.2 aperture and LED flash. Like other expensive Android smartphones, you will be able to record 4K videos from the Z2 Plus. It is equipped with slow-motion video and full-HD time lapse. We took some great pictures in normal indoor lighting. Low light shots were also better than average. Photos taken with the 8-megapixel selfie camera also came out well. We found the camera app easy to use. It launched quickly. We found the smartphone’s rear camera to focus quickly. Due to some technical reasons, we could not test all the camera modes of the Z2 Plus. You will be given detailed information about this during the review.
The company has used 2.15 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 chipset in the handset. With this, you will have the option to choose between 3 GB RAM + 32 GB storage and 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage. Storage cannot be increased. In the limited time spent with the phone, we found that there was no problem in multitasking. And it gave a good response to touch input. Apps launched quickly and there was no problem in switching between one and the other. We will not say much about the performance of Lenovo Z2 Plus. It will be discussed in detail in the review.
Final Thoughts
Lenovo Z2 Plus 3 GB RAM + 32 GB storage variant has been launched in India for Rs 17,999. At the same time, the variant with 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage will be available for Rs 19,999. It will be available in black and white color variants from Sunday midnight.
The price of the Z2 Plus works in its favour as it is the cheapest phone in the market to be powered by the Snapdragon 820 processor. It is expected to be popular too. However, wait for the Lenovo Z2 Plus review to know about the performance of the phone.
