Google Workspace plans to increase prices as Gemini AI expands to all levels
Google announced Wednesday that Gemini AI will be available to all Google Workspace business or enterprise users, integrated directly into the productivity suite. Although initially all Gemini features will be offered at no additional cost, the expanded offering will increase Workspace plan prices.
Jerry Deischler, president of Google’s cloud applications, wrote, “By removing the need to pay for add-ons to access our latest generative AI capabilities, we are expanding our plans to bring added value to Google AI to all Workspace customers and “Simplifying pricing.” In product announcement,
AI features will be rolled out gradually between January and March.
AI costs will now be spread across all plans
Before Google decided to include Gemini in all Workspace plans, the cost of a Gemini subscription was $20 per user per month for the Business plan or $30 per user per month for the Enterprise plan. The changes to the basic plans are:
- business starterOffering the smallest storage pool and fewest features, increased from $6 per user per month to $7 per user per month.
- business standardAllowing up to 150 people in Google Meet and adding tools like eSignature, the price increased from $12 per user per month to $14 per user per month.
- business plusThe price increased from $18 per user per month to $22 per user per month, offering advanced security and management tools.
New customers will be charged the updated pricing from January 16, while existing customers will be charged March 17 or their next annual or fixed-term renewal date. Businesses that already pay for the Google Gemini add-on will not be charged for it after January 31.
However, the pricing change will not impact small businesses with 20 or fewer users so quickly. Google has not specified when these businesses might be subject to the new pricing plan.
Google’s decision to include AI fees in its professional workspace plans signals that AI is now an essential, fully integrated component of its professional applications. By factoring costs into the overall plan, the price increase may be less noticeable to customers. This gives Google Gemini a competitive advantage over standalone AI services that charge separately monthly.
