Vicky Kaushal on ‘Chhawa’ Oat release: Sambhaji’s legacy should reach every corner of the world

Vicky Kaushal-Starrer ChorusThe highest grossing Indian film of 2025 begins streaming on Netflix from April 11. Directed by Laxman YouTekar, the film is a biopic of Sambhaji Maharaj, who is the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and the successor of the Maratha throne. While Kaushal portrays the scary warrior and the emperor, Rashmika Mandanna plays his wife and queen, Yasubai. The film also includes Akshe Khanna as Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.

A period action spectacle, Chorus Brave opposition to Sambhaji for the powerful Mughal Empire. The historic Sambhaji was captured by Aurangzeb’s armies in 1689 and tortured for death.

Speaking about the film’s streaming release, Vicky Kaushal said in a statement, “Chhatrapati was an honor beyond playing the role of Sambhaji Maharaj and one of the most full experiences of my career. His courage, flexibility, and heritage is something that should reach every corner of the world. With Netflix, we also ensure that his story is also not in India.

Producer Dinesh Vijan said, “In Madock films, we are emotional about telling stories, which are stories; stories leaving a mark. Chhava is not just the story of courage, it is a celebration of heritage, flexibility and sacrifice. After an unreliable run in the theater, we are excited to bring it to a global audience on Netflix.

Kaushal’s next film is Love and warDirected by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
