His family said veteran Odia actor Uttam Mohanty died on Thursday (February 27, 2025) during the treatment of a private hospital in Delhi (28 February 2025).
He was 66 years old. Mohanty was suffering from acute liver diseases and was airlifted from Bhubaneswar to Delhi on 8 February 2025.
He is survived by his famous actor’s wife Aparajita Mohanty and son, Odia Cine Star Babush.
Taking X in X, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said, “I am very sad to know about the demise of popular actor of Odisha Uttam Mohanty. His departure has created a huge zero in the Odia art field. The impression he left in Odia cinema will always keep him in the hearts of the audience. I pray for the eternal peace of his soul and express my deep condolences to the bereaved family. ,
The CM also ordered that the funeral of Mohanty should be organized with full state honors.
Mohanty made her acting debut in 1977 with the Odia film ‘Abhimaan’ and acted in more than 130 films. His best performances were in films ‘Nizum Ratira Sati’ (1979), ‘Phula Chandana’ (1982), ‘Jhiati Sita Pari’ (1983) and ‘Danda Balunga’ (1984).
He also acted in about 30 Bengali films and a Hindi film, ‘Naya Zahr’. Mohanty also worked in some TV serials including ‘Sara Akash’.
