The jiohotstar streaming platform was launched as JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar Merges content. Mint

JISTAR has announced the launch of its new streaming platform, Jiohotstar, which integrates the company’s two current services, JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar. The new platform is the largest in the Indian market, with a joint user base of over 50 crores and materials of more than three lakh hours.

The new platform will also provide international materials from Disney, NBCNVarsal peacock, Warner Brothers, Discovery, HBO and Paramount.

Meanwhile, cricket streaming is expected to be a major part of Geohotstar with the rights of several major ICC events, including the cricket streaming IPL, WPL and domestic tournaments. The English Premier League, Wimbledon, Pro Kabaddi League and ISL will also be available on the Gehotstar app.

The new streaming app offers Ultra HD 4K streaming, multi-angle viewing, AI-operated Insights and Real-Time Stats overlays.

Jiohotstar provides an advertising free tier, while the paid plans will start 149. Existing users of both Disney+Hotstar and Geosynema will be migrated to the new platform.

In particular, the Disney+Hotstar app on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store has already infected with new logo in Jiohotstar. The new app currently has a user interface similar to Disney+Hotstar, but it can change in the future. On visiting the website Hotstar.com, the user is welcomed with the message that the contents of JioCinema are now available on Jiohotstar.

JioCinema – Disney+ Hotstar merger:

The Competition Commission’s India (CCI) and the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) approved the merger between Disney and Reliance Industries in August last year, and a joint venture was established in November that year.

Reliance has a 60 percent stake in the merged company. Of this, it owns 16 percent and 47 percent directly through its viacom18 media business, which he owns a large scale.

Disney has a 37 percent stake in the merged unit.
