Samsung Galaxy M53 5G Review: Is it a true upgrade?
Samsung Galaxy M53 5G price in India
Contents
Samsung Galaxy M53 5G Its price in India starts from Rs 26,499. It comes in 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant. The latter variant comes in 8GB RAM + 128GB storage, which is priced at Rs 28,499. I had its Mystic Green color unit. It also comes in deep ocean blue color.
Design of Samsung Galaxy M53 5G
The Samsung Galaxy M53 5G is made mainly of plastic and feels quite sturdy, but doesn’t feel too premium. In first impressions, I praised its mystic green finish. I’m still maintaining it because it helps it stand out from the competition. After a week of use, I found that it removes stains easily, although they are not clearly visible. Being the most expensive device of the M series, the company should have also included a rear case in the box with it.

Accessories missing from the box also include a charger. Only USB Type-C to Type-C cable is available in the box. If you have a USB Type C charger then you can charge the device with it. For fast charging you will need a 25W charger. Samsung’s official charger is available for Rs 1200.
The side-mounted fingerprint scanner of the phone is easy to reach, but the same is not the case with the volume buttons. Due to its large size, it seems a bit difficult to use the device with one hand. It has a large 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, as Galaxy M52 5G Was also given in. The weight of the phone is 176 grams, which according to me is easily manageable.
Specifications and software of Samsung Galaxy M53 5G
MediaTek Dimensity 900 SoC has been given in Samsung Galaxy M53 5G. It also has a vapor cooling chamber which keeps the temperature of the phone under control. With dual SIM support, it has 12 5G bands and also supports 4G VoLTE. The company has given auto data switch feature in it. Due to this, when the data of one SIM gets switched off, the phone automatically switches to the data of the other SIM so that the data connection remains in the phone all the time.
This latest phone of Samsung has a hybrid SIM tray. I think the company should have released another variant with more storage. Through RAM Plus feature, you can use a small part of the storage as RAM. In my 6GB variant, I had the convenience of using 6GB of storage space as RAM. This comes in handy when you are multitasking.

The Super AMOLED Plus panel of the phone comes with full-HD Plus resolution and a maximum refresh rate of 120Hz. Only some smartphones like Xiaomi Mi 11i HyperCharge 5G, Mi 11i And Realme GT Master Edition At this price it comes with a high refresh rate AMOLED display. In this, the screen refresh rate was set to 120Hz by default. In the display settings, there is an option to choose between vivid and natural color modes. With this the color temperature of the panel can be changed.
Talking about the software, the phone comes with Android 12 out of the box on top of which is Samsung’s OneUI 4.1 skin. The company has promised two years of Android OS updates and four years of security updates for the Galaxy M53 5G. OneUI is easy to use but it also comes with a lot of third party bloatware. You can uninstall most of these apps. Like Apple’s Continuity feature, you can also copy and transfer text and images to other Samsung devices. But for that, all devices must be signed in with the same Samsung account. The phone also has some experimental features which include Multi Window, with the help of which you can run multiple apps in a resizable pop up window.
Performance and battery life of Samsung Galaxy M53 5G
The performance of Samsung Galaxy M53 5G is quite good for a common user. Its Super AMOLED crisp display has good viewing angles and many options for customization. The single speaker has support for Dolby Atmos. If there were dual speakers, the experience would have been better.
Daily use needs are fulfilled smoothly in Samsung Galaxy M53 5G. Apps and games load quickly and multitasking is smooth. Its side mounted fingerprint scanner is quite accurate and there is very little chance of a second attempt to unlock the phone. The refresh rate of 120Hz also makes the UI feel super smooth.

The gaming performance of the phone is quite good. Asphalt 9: Legends ran very well at 60Hz and no lag was felt. After 15 minutes of gaming the battery went down by 3 percent which is normal. The phone did not feel warm.
Talking about benchmark scores, Samsung Galaxy M53 5G scored 424,426 points on AnTuTu. In the single-core and multi-core tests of Geekbench 5, it scored 731 and 2,264 points respectively. These scores were lower than the Realme GT Master Edition and Xiaomi Mi 11i HyperCharge 5G, which have a cheaper starting price and come with better specifications.
The battery life of Samsung Galaxy M53 5G is impressive. Its 5,000mAh battery lasts for more than a day. The phone lasted 18 hours 24 minutes in the HD video loop test. There was no charger provided with the phone, so I used the MacBook Air (2020)’s USB Type-C charger. The phone also showed fast charging, but it was difficult to say that it was charging at its full capacity of 25W. The phone got charged 31 percent in half an hour and 58 percent in an hour.
Camera of Samsung Galaxy M53 5G
Quad camera setup has been given in Samsung Galaxy M53 5G. It has a primary camera of 108 megapixels, along with an 8 megapixel ultrawide angle camera, a 2 megapixel macro camera and a 2 megapixel depth sensor. In comparison, Xiaomi Mi 11i HyperCharge 5G also comes with the same camera setup.

The phone is very fast in focusing and takes the correct exposure. The close shots are also quite impressive. However, portrait shots require some patience as they take some time. Daylight shots of the phone are quite good and details come out well. The tone of the primary camera is also available in the photos of the ultrawide camera, which is a good thing. But it lacks details. Barrel distortion is much less visible in ultra wide photos.

The macro camera captures good photos and I was able to get very close to the subject while shooting. Its low-light camera performance is quite good. However, there was a lack of detail in dark areas of landscape shots. Night mode showed some improvement but the phone was taking 3 to 4 seconds to take a photo. Sometimes good photos were being taken and sometimes soft results were being obtained. Therefore nothing can be said with certainty about it.

The phone’s 32-megapixel selfie camera captures 8-megapixel photos by default. Selfies taken during day time look quite good. Colors are available natural. Edge detection is good in portrait shots. The low-light performance of the selfie camera is average.
Talking about video recording, it can shoot 4K video at 30fps. The phone relies on EIS for footage stabilization. In daylight, the colors in the video look very good but the video appears to be shaking. In low-light footage, there seems to be a lot of disturbance in my opinion. The camera app also has a Super Steady mode, but it crops the frame too much to achieve stabilization and limits the resolution to 1080p.
Verdict
The Samsung Galaxy M53 5G is a good upgrade to the Galaxy M52 5G. The phone looks premium and the hardware is strong. One thing that is very good in the phone’s favor is that it promises Android OS and security updates, so that it can compete with its rivals in the long run. In my view, its 6GB RAM variant proves to be more value for money. I also feel that considering the price, Samsung should have also provided a 25W charger with it.
If Galaxy M53 5G still doesn’t suit you, then you can look at Xiaomi Mi 11i HyperCharge 5G which is a much better alternative. In this you get a more powerful Dimensity 920 SoC chipset and a 120W charger is available in the box itself. Those who are looking for a good camera phone can look at Realme 9 Pro+. If your budget does not allow then Mi 11i and Realme GT Master Edition can also be options.
