Redmi 11 Prime 5G First Impressions: 5G phone at an affordable price!

Xiaomi has launched 2 new budget smartphones under the Redmi 11 Prime series – Redmi 11 Prime 4G and Redmi 11 Prime 5G. Redmi 11 Prime 5G is a phone with 5G connectivity. This is Redmi’s most affordable 5G smartphone till date. 5G services are about to start in India, keeping this opportunity in mind, the company has tried to target those customers who want to experience the next generation network at a low price.

Redmi 11 Prime 5G comes with a basic 5G smartphone hardware. The company has launched it in two storage options. The base variant has 4GB RAM and 64GB storage and is priced at Rs 13,999. The 6GB RAM and 128GB storage variant is priced at Rs 15,999. The phone can be purchased at an initial price of Rs 12,999 through ICICI Bank credit card and debit card.

The price of the phone is quite low, so let’s see what the phone actually offers. I used the phone for a few hours and my first impressions are that the phone looks good. I got the Meadow Green colour variant which looks quite refreshing. Xiaomi has recently launched a lot of phones in blue and white shades, so the green colour looks quite good. The textured black colour has a matte finish which prevents fingerprints from appearing on the phone. If you are not a fan of green, you can also go with the Chrome Silver and Thunder Black options.

The body of the phone is made entirely of plastic, which is very common for phones in this price range. Keeping in mind the design trend of smartphones in 2022, Xiaomi has given it a flat frame. The rear panel is curved, which makes it easier to hold the phone. The power button is given on the right side, which also has a fingerprint scanner. The volume buttons are found above this. There is a single speaker at the bottom and a USB Type C port is provided. A plus point is that it also has a 3.5mm headphone jack on the top for wired headphones, which is a feature that matters to many users. Redmi has given a dedicated microSD card slot in it, which is available with a dual SIM slot on the left side.

The phone weighs a little more than 200 grams and its thickness is also quite good, 8.9mm. The company also provides a silicone protective case in the box. Apart from this, a 22.5W charger and USB Type-A to USB Type-C charging cable are also provided with it. However, the phone supports only 18W fast charging.

Redmi 11 Prime 5G has a 6.58-inch IPS LCD display. It has a brightness of 400 nits, which cannot be said to be very high, but I did not have any problem using it indoors. The display has a waterdrop notch design at the top but the chin is a bit thick at the bottom. Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection is also provided on the screen. The phone supports 90Hz AdaptiveSync Display. This means that the screen automatically switches between 50, 60 and 90Hz, depending on the content running on the screen.

Redmi 11 Prime 5G has MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC which is said to be a chip that provides an affordable 5G experience. Xiaomi says that the phone supports seven 5G bands. This means that 5G services can be used on both SIM cards of your phone. In its full review, we will tell you about its everyday performance.

Redmi 11 Prime 5G has a dual camera setup at the rear. The primary lens is 50 megapixels with f/1.8 aperture. The secondary sensor is a 2-megapixel depth lens. The phone has an 8-megapixel front camera for selfies.
Talking about the software, the phone runs on Android 12 out of the box on which MIUI 13 skin has been given. Xiaomi’s user interface is known for a lot of features but also brings a lot of bloatware. You can remove most of the third party apps. Being a budget smartphone, it is not expected to get many software updates in the future, but the company can also surprise by giving updates. One can at least expect to get Android 13 update in the next few months. The company has not announced any details for software support.

The Redmi 11 Prime 5G enters an already crowded budget segment, which means it will compete with smartphones like the Moto G32, Moto G42, Realme 9i 5G, Infinix Note 12. Some of these phones are designed to offer more value for money with 4G processors and some, like the Redmi 11 Prime 5G, are launched to offer a 5G experience at a lower price. In our test, we will try to find out whether the Redmi 11 Prime 5G is the best 5G smartphone available in India in the segment below Rs 15,000? Stay tuned to Gadgets 360 for the full review of this phone.
