Reddit says that Anthropic used its community to train AI without permission, files sued. Mint

Social media platform Reddit has initiated legal proceedings against Artificial Intelligence Company Anthropic, accusing the firm of scrapping user-generated material illegally to train its AI assistant, cloud.
Filed in California Superior Court in San Francisco on Wednesday, the trial alleged that Anthropic used automatic equipment to remove the comments of the Redit users without permission, clearly asked not to do so. According to Reddit, this material was then used to train Cloud Chatbot, without user consent or proper licensing.
“AI companies should not be allowed to earn information and content from people without clear limitations,” said Ben Lee, the Chief Legal Officer of Reddit, how they can use that data. ” He emphasized the stage commitment to protect his community, which produces vast versions of public discourse each day.
Reddit, which became public last year, has killed licensing deals with AI developers such as Openai and Google. These arrangements, the company says, allows transparent and legitimate use of data, enabling materials such as material deletion and spam prevention.
“This participation allows us to implement meaningful safety measures to our users,” Lee said, underlining the contrast between the authorized data access and the alleged misconduct of the anthropic.
In 2021, the anthropic established by the pre-optional authorities and now by Amazon, heavy supporters denies the allegations. The company said in a brief statement, “We disagree with the claims of Redit and will strictly protect ourselves.”
Legal complaints take a separate route from other recent cases related to AI firms. Instead of alleging copyright violations, as seen in the cases of music publishers, which targets the cloud to mimic the lyrics of the song, focusing on a violation of the redit filing contract and inappropriate competition. In particular, it accuses scrapping data without a proper license and accuses us of violating the terms of the service of Reddit.
The lawsuit cites a 2021 research paper that is co-author by anthropic CEO Dario Amodi, in which the sub-colors of the Reddit were clearly mentioned as high quality sources for training of AI systems. The forums covering subjects such as horticulture, history and personal advice were especially listed as valuable for modeling of human language patterns.
Anthropic has earlier claimed, which includes the US Copyright Office in a letter of 2023, that its methods of training of clouds form legitimate use, describing them as statistical analysis instead of breeding of materials.
