When Ram Gopal Varma decided to remake the iconic film Sholay Rgv ki aagHe initially aimed to modernize his elements and give it a new story. He believed that if he had approached with honesty like Satya, it would have been successful. However, the project took a turn for worse, and the film ended as one of Bollywood’s most notorious flops.
Sasa Sippy And ‘Junior’ Gabbar ‘script idea
In a recent interview with Komal Nahta on your YouTube channel game changer, Rosy It turned out how the idea for the film stems from a meeting with Sholay producer GP Sippy’s grandson Sasha Sippy. According to Verma, Sascha proposed a bizarre sequel, where Gabbar Singh dads a child with Helen’s character, and years later, ‘Junior. Gabbar wants to take revenge on ‘Viru and Basanti’s family. Jackie Chan was also included in the scheme.
Verma found the concept absurd and refused to be a part of it. However, the conversation gave rise to her own ideas about remakeing Sholay in a different way.
Role of Amitabh Bachchan
RVV shared that a poster designer of his team created an image of Gabbar Singh after Amitabh BachchanLook from the government. While he initially found it unrealistic, the designer assured him that mythological characters should look bigger than life. This held a meeting with Amitabh, where Verma picked the film, and the superstar agreed to be a part of the filmmaker’s vision after the government.
Creative block and wrong decision
Despite Bachchan’s involvement, RVG admitted that he is suffering from a creative block and made several mistakes. He said that the first and biggest error in film production is deciding what to make. Once this decision is determined, everything else follows, often beyond control.
Considering the failure, RGV eventually convicted Sasha Sippy, poster designer and even Bachchan before taking responsibility. “The real criminal Sasha Sippy, the poster is man, and there are people sitting next to me. In a way, Bachchan Saheb too. But I am taking blame for it,” he took a pinch.

In earlier conversation with Galata Plus, Verma regretted that Amitabh Bachchan had to endure Baikalash due to the film’s failure. He said, “Amitabh Bachchan put his reputation at stake as he agreed to egg the RGV,” he admitted that it was his fault, not Bachchan’s. “I would feel guilty that I drove him through him.”

Released in 2007, RGG’s Eg starred Mohanlal, Ajay Devgan and Sushmita Sen with Amitabh Bachchan. The film was found with highly negative reviews and is still considered one of the biggest disasters of Bollywood.
