Oscar 2025: Academy confirms ‘Fab 5’ format will not be used for acting categories ‘Emilia Perez’ controversy

The academy has clarified that the “Fab 5” format, which offers the previous Oscar winners to the nominated people, will not be used for this year’s function. While speculation roamed that the decision was linked to the surrounding backlash Emilia Perez Star Carla Sophia Gaskon, sources indicate that the change was already planned.

Instead of persuading acting nominated people, the “Fab 5” format will now be reserved for the direction category and the artisan awards will be selected. The academy allegedly decided to return the format to avoid being keen to participate from previous winners, stopping it from becoming an annual tradition on recycled presenters.

Despite this explanation, the dispute around Gaskon continues on the race for awards. After the social media posts revived as Islamophobic and racist, Netflix has made itself far away Emilia Perez Star, Scaling focused on his campaign and instead exposed co-star Zo Saladana. Gaskon’s absence from major industry events has speculated about the film’s Oscar possibilities.
