Openai’s Sora face Hollywood Roadblock: Why Walt Disney Company, Warner Bros., and other studios are not yet ready for AI. Mint

Openai’s Sora is yet to be accepted in Hollywood and major studios worldwide, as filmmakers hesitate to embrace artificial intelligence (AI) in their creative and commercial enterprises. Despite the widespread discussion of OpenIA with major studios such as Walt Disney Company, Universal Pictures, and Warner Brothers Discovery Inc.
Why is the film industry hesitant to accept Sora?
The reluctance stems from concerns about the impact of AI on creative industries, data security, and potential conflicts with powerful labor unions.
Sora, Openai’s AI-operated video generator, was introduced in the beginning of 2024, which offered to the company to offer generic video tools amid growing number of companies in a growing number of companies. Since its release, Openai officials have tried to take partnership with Hollywood studios, demonstrating technology ability in major industry events. However, the film industry remains cautious, especially the upheaval AI has already been given in entertainment.
The 2023 Hollywood attacks by the screenplay writers and actors were quite inspired by apprehensions on the influence of AI. Unions have constantly urged the studios to ensure that their intellectual property is not exploited by technical firms without proper compensation. Openi worth $ 157 billion has emphasized that Sora is still an early days for Sora and the company does not intend to force premature partnerships.
“We are very early with Sora,” Openi’s Chief Operating Officer Brad Licap told Bloomberg News in January. “I think you are part of correcting these things, you can’t just say,” Okay, we have a model, now we are going to force a partnership. ” The industry’s response is super valuable. ,
Despite the broad studio hesitation, some individual filmmakers have shown enthusiasm to use AI as a creative tool. Actor and director Ben Eaflack has mentioned that AI can streamline the film manufacturing processes, ending expensive and laborious elements by increasing efficiency. However, he has dismissed concerns that AI will completely change the script writing or filmmaking.
For major studios, the AI conversation is complex. While they believe that AI will essentially change the production workflows, his previous experiences with technical giants such as Google, Meta and Netflix have cautioned him to give him his most valuable assets without significant financial returns. Unlike the record label, who took great advantage by taking equity in Spotify, missed the initial investment opportunities in the major film studio streaming platforms, and they are not alert to repeat the mistake with AI.
Lionsgate emerges as an exception
An exception to the industry is Lionsgate, which made a deal with the AI Startup Runway in September 2024. The partnership allows the runway to train the AI model using the content of Lionsgate, while the studio retains special rights to use technology in its presentations. Lionsgate Vice Chair Michael Burns described AI as a tool to “grow, enhance and complement” its operation, and some of its filmmakers are already searching for its applications.
Openai has allegedly discussed similar arrangements with other studios, allowing them to train the custom AI model on their intellectual qualities for internal use. Such agreements will include the studio in production processes without providing common public access to their characters or franchises. Additionally, some studios have detected the possibility of license to Openai to their film and TV catalogs in exchange for adequate financial compensation, although these dialogues have yet to move forward significantly.
