‘Never a dull day in AI’: Sundar Pichai reacted as Lama launches 4 models to launch the meta. Mint

After allegedly delayed its latest AI range for a few months, Meta unveiled its new Lama model on Saturday. While the company introduced three models: Lama 4 Maverick, Lama 4 Scouts and Lama 4 Maverick and Lama 4Bmoth – only two are currently available.
Immediately after the announcement of the Meta’s Lama 4AI model, Meta AI received an unexpected congratulatory message from Google CEO Sundar Pichai, who wrote in a post on X, “Never in AI World, never a dull day! Congratulations to Lama 4 team, later!”
In particular, the new AI models of the meta compete directly with the offerings of Google. For example, Meta claims that the Lama 4 Maverals improved Gemini 2.0 (flash) in coding, logic, multilingual, long reference and image benchmark, while Lama 4 Scouts are said to give better results than Gemini 2.0 flash light and Jemma 3 models.
Additionally, the upcoming models of the meta such as Lama Beemoth and Lama Reasoning will also compete directly with Google’s major offerings.

Underlining the ambitions for the Lama 4 model, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a video on X, “Our goal is to build the world’s leading AI, it is an open source, and it is universally accessible, so that everyone in the world is benefited. And I have said for some time that the open source is going to be a prominent model, and a lot is going on with Lalama 4.
The Lama comes with 4 MAVERIC 17 billion active parameters and 128 experts. Meta says that MAVIVICK is “General Assistant and Products for Cases of Chat Use” and is ideal for an accurate image understanding and creative writing functions.
Meanwhile, the Lama 4 Scout has 17 billion active parameters, 16 experts and 109 billion parameters. The small Lama 4 models are asked to excel in tasks such as summarizing documents and arguing on code basis.
