Google employees have started an internal petition called “Job Security”, CNBC said. The petition expresses concern over the company’s planned cost reduction for 2025.

According to the publication, this petition has received the support of more than 1,250 workers across the United States and Canada, which highlights rising unrest as employees face the possibility of ongoing job cuts.

The petition underlines the anxiety felt by the employees as they worry about the stability of the job in the light of several rounds since 2023. These deductions have questioned many questions behind the dismissal of so many colleagues, especially given the strong financial position of the company.

In particular, employees reportedly argued that such tasks reduce their ability to provide high quality work and reduce morale throughout the organization.

“We are concerned about instability on Google that affects our ability to do high quality, impressive work,” the petition was read as per the petition. “The ongoing rounds of the trimming make us feel insecure about our jobs. The company is clearly in a strong financial position, causing the loss of so many valuable colleagues without clarification.”

The petition allegedly follows Google’s new CFO, Anat Ashkenazi’s comments, who said in October that one of his major priorities will be cut in October, especially the company’s AI Infrastructure investments To give funds. AshKenazi’s comments created concern among the employees, especially there was little clarity on how these cuts would be implemented.

In response to these concerns, the petition demands that CEO Sundar Pichai offered voluntary procurement before resorting to the layoffs, said in the report.

It also calls for the guaranteed severed packages similar to those introduced in January 2023, when Google shut down 12,000 workers. These packages include 16 weeks of salary and two additional weeks for each year of service.

In addition, the petition motivates the company not to use low performance reviews as justified for removing employees. Google has earlier stated that performance reviews are based on individual contribution, without a forced rating distribution.
