Mark Zuckerberg lobby Trump to dispose of antitrust suits against meta

Meta Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg has advocated President Trump and his colleagues to resolve a federal no -confidence case against his company, which is ready to go for a test on 14 April, with three people with knowledge of the case.

Mr. Zuckerberg has made several trips to the White House and Mar-e-Lago to discuss the matter, with other issues, two people said, who were not authorized to reveal private conversations. Recently, he visited the White House on Wednesday morning.

The Federal Trade Commission sued Meta in 2020, during the first term of Mr. Trump, by purchasing young start-ups such as Instagram and WhatsApp and accused them of stifting competition to prevent them from becoming completely business. Meta can solve the case with a disposal. It is not clear that Mr. Zuckerberg’s efforts have inspired the Trump administration to consider settling.

Andy Stone, a spokesperson of Meta, who owns Facebook, stated that the company “regularly meets with policy makers, which discusses issues affecting competition, national security and economic development.”

The White House did not immediately make a comment, and the FTC refused to comment. The details of the meetings were Informed Earlier by Wall Street Journal.

In its trial, FTC claimed that Meta violated the no -confidence law by receiving young rivals and depriving consumers of alternative social media platforms. The FTC argued that the 2014 deal for the Meta-Sapping Site Instagram’s procurement of the 2012 photo-sharing site Instagram and the 2014 deal for a messaging app WhatsApp for $ 19 billion should not have been approved.

The FTC said in its complaint that the company demanded “buying or burying innovators threatening to exclude Facebook in the new mobile environment.

Meta refused to achieve Instagram and WhatsApp to kill the competition, and said that it has invested heavily in developing innovations for apps. Meta has also said that it continues to face strict competition from rivals such as Tikok, YouTube, Snap and Imesus.

The acquisition of Instagram and Whatsapp proved to be the presenter. Instagram has become a main part of the Meta business, which is bringing billions in annual revenue. WhatsApp has quadrupled two billion users’ size, and has begun to generate significant revenue for meta.

A federal judge dismissed the antitrust case in 2021, but was soon revived after the FTC revives more evidence and analysis to support its claims.

Now a test is scheduled to start in less than two weeks. The test is expected to facilitate testimony from high-profile meta authorities including Mr. Zuckerberg; Sheryl Sandberg, former Chief Operating Officer; And Kevin System, Co-Founder of Instagram.

Meta officials have been preparing intensely for testing for months, working closely with the external lawyer in the event, called to testify, two are familiar with the case.

Mr. Zuckerberg’s visit to the White House is part of an attempt to improve Meta’s relations with the government and especially Mr. Trump, which he clashed in the past. In December, Meta announced that it had donated $ 1 million to Mr. Trump’s inaugural fund. And Mr. Zuckerberg promoted Joel couple, a Republican and long -standing meta executive, to become the head of the company’s global public policy and to deepen the relationship with the Trump administration.
