Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus first look
We got a chance to spend some time with the Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus at the launch event, here’s how the phone looks at first glance and how it feels in the hand.
The Vibe K5 Plus is in no way the next generation phone of the Lenovo Vibe K4 Note (Review) launched in January. Rather, it can be considered an upgraded phone of Lenovo’s popular smartphones Lenovo A6000 and Lenovo A6000 Plus smartphones. Lenovo says that the new Vibe K5 Plus will strengthen its hold in the category of phones under Rs 10,000.
Lenovo India Smartphone Director Sudhin Mathur answered several questions related to Vibe K5 Plus. According to him, after the acquisition of Motorola, the company is using the name ‘Vibe’ keeping in mind its branding strategy. Lenovo had announced in January that the company will launch top feature smartphones as Moto and budget handsets as Vibe in 2016.
Vibe K5 Plus may have a plastic body but it looks metal in appearance. Vibe K5 Plus will be available in Champagne Gold, Platinum Silver and Graphite Grey colour variants. The unit we used was in Platinum Silver colour.
With a 5-inch screen, Vibe K5 Plus fits easily in the hand and you can operate the phone comfortably with one hand. The front of the phone has a camera, earpiece and sensors above the display. There are capacitive buttons below the display. There is a big Lenovo logo on the beat of the rear panel, while the camera is given in the upper right corner with LED flash. Stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos are also provided on the rear panel.
The Vibe K5 Plus has physical power and volume buttons on the right side while the charging and headphone socket are on the top. There are no ports or buttons on the bottom and left side.
The back of the phone is removable and the 2750mAh battery can also be removed. The phone has two micro-SIM slots and a microSD card slot for expandable storage. The fact that the phone does not come with a hybrid slot (choose between a second SIM or a microSD card) makes it even better.
The smartphone has a 64-bit octa-core Qualcomm 616 processor and Adreno 405 GPU. The RAM is 2 GB. The smartphone has 16 GB storage which can be expanded up to 128 GB with the help of a microSD card. Multitasking and app switching can be done without any hassle in Vibe K5 Plus. However, we cannot give a complete verdict on Vibe K5 Plus until we review it in detail.
The smartphone has support for 4G LTE bands. Other connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1, Micro-USB 2.0, and FM radio.
Talking about the camera, the phone has a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and F2.2 aperture. For selfie lovers, there is a 5-megapixel front camera with F2.2 aperture. In our small camera test, the pictures taken indoors with Vibe K5 Plus looked decent. Good pictures can be taken with the front camera as well.
The Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus smartphone sports a 5-inch IPS LCD Full HD display (1080×1920 pixels) with Vibe UI on top which makes it look a bit similar to the Lenovo Vibe K4 Note. The smartphone comes pre-installed with a number of apps including an app called Theme Center.
Like the Vibe K4 Note, the Vibe K5 Plus also comes with Theater Max VR technology. Customers will have to buy the VR headset separately.
Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus has been launched by the company at a price of Rs 8,499 in the category of less than Rs 10,000. In this category, the phone will face tough competition from the fingerprint sensor equipped Coolpad Note 3 priced at Rs 8,999, Meizu M2 Note (Rs 9,999) and Yu Eureka Plus (Rs 8,999).
Vibe K5 Plus will be available for purchase exclusively on online shopping website Flipkart from 12 noon on March 23. There will be no need to register for this sale. During the first sale, an exclusive exchange and upgrade offer will also be given to existing Lenovo A6000 and A6000 Plus users.
