Lenovo Vibe K5 Note first look
Lenovo Vibe K5 Note has been launched in Black, Gold and Grey colour variants. We spent some time with the Gold variant at the launch event. First of all let’s talk about the looks of the Vibe K5 Note. The metal body smartphone is comfortable to hold and use but the matte finish Vibe K4 Note gives a better grip. Due to the metal body, the phone Vibe K5 Note weighs 165 grams whereas the Vibe K4 Note was lighter at 158 grams. On the other hand, the Vibe K5 Note is 8.4 mm thin whereas the Vibe K4 Note was 9.1 mm thin.
Like the Vibe K4 Note, the Vibe K5 Note has a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) IPS display. The screen density is 401 ppi. However, the new Vibe K5 Note does not have Corning Gorilla Glass to protect it from scratches. The display of the Vibe K5 Note is bright and crisp and the display can be seen well even in sunlight. The viewing angles of the phone are quite great.
Lenovo has this time used capacitive buttons instead of onscreen buttons for home, recent and back navigation controls in this smartphone. The physical volume and power buttons are on the right side and can be used easily.
The rear camera, dual-tone LED flash and fingerprint scanner are given in a single line on the rear of the Vibe K5 Note. The ‘Vibe’ brand can be seen in the middle of the rear while the Lenovo logo is given at the bottom.
The final variant of the Vibe K5 Note will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow with slight changes made by Lenovo to provide a near-stock experience. But the device we used runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop. Lenovo said that the commercial unit of Lenovo Vibe K5 Note that will hit the market will run on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
The company has given the most unique feature of this smartphone to the Secure Zone feature of Vibe K5 Note. On activating the Secure Zone, you will get two secure phones inside the K5 Note. The company has said that users will be able to run apps like WhatsApp and WeChat in different zones at the same time. During this, there will be no possibility of missing notifications from both the zones. Apart from this, another feature that we saw is that by double tapping on the screen, anything can be zoomed in. This feature can be very helpful for people with weak eyesight.
This app comes with a preloaded theme center app which has options to change many things including wallpaper, ringtone and lock screen. The demo variant of Vibe K5 Note had pre-loaded apps like Flipkart, Myntra, Truecaller, WeChat and the company’s ShareIt and SyncIt. Like the Vibe K4 Note, the Vibe K5 Note also supports the company’s TheaterMax technology. Apart from this, it also supports VR headsets.
The Lenovo Vibe K5 Note sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with PDAF autofocus, f/2.2 aperture, and dual-tone LED flash. Tapping the icon launches the camera app quickly. In the little time we spent with the device, photos taken with the K5 Note in normal lighting were crisp and had good detail. The images did not get pixelated even when zoomed in. The 8-megapixel front camera also takes good photos, but we would like to reserve our judgement until we test the camera in different conditions.
Lenovo Vibe K5 Note smartphone uses 1.8 GHz 64-bit octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor. Users will have the option to choose between 3 or 4 GB of RAM. Mali T860 GPU is integrated for graphics. The inbuilt storage is 32 GB which can be expanded up to 128 GB via microSD card. During the time we spent with the demo unit of Vibe K5 Note, we did not face any problem with multitasking and touch.
Final Thoughts
Lenovo Vibe K5 Note handset will be available in Platinum Silver, Graphite Gray and Champagne Gold color variants. The 3GB RAM variant will be available for Rs 11,999. The 4GB RAM variant of Vibe K5 Note will be sold for Rs 13,499. It will be available exclusively in open sale on e-commerce site Flipkart and not in flash sale.
At this price, the Vibe K5 Note will compete with many popular smartphones in the country. These include the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, Moto G4 Plus and LeEco Le 2. The K5 Note has a lot of upgrades over the previous Vibe K4 Note but is it a phone worth buying among so many competitors? Stay tuned and you will soon be able to read the full review of the Vibe K5 Note.
