When a dancer adept in vocal music and veena comes on stage, a unique confluence of art forms takes place. Kiran Prakash, a disciple of Hema and Krutika Rajagopalan, presented Bharatnatyam recital for Anusham Kala Academy.

Kiran started with ‘Shankar Srigiri’, in which Shiva, who dances with the sages and ghosts in the Chitrasabha, is depicted as the destroyer of Kamadeva. This work composed by Swati Tirunal is composed in Raga Hamsanandi and Taal etc. The dance featured a seamless blend of intricate footwork and subtle expressions, including impressive eye and eyebrow movements.

The next centerpiece was – Varnam ‘Mohamana’. It is composed by Ponnaiah Pillai in Raga Bhairavi and Taala Roopakam. Here the heroine expresses her yearning and helplessness to Shiva. Kiran maintained her energy and poise throughout the varnam. Their jewelery and attire added to the overall charm.

Kiran then presented ‘Apadurukku’, a Javali composed by Pattabhirama Iyer in Khamas and Aadi tala. Kiran beautifully conveyed the innocence of the heroine through her acting.

Kiran concluded her performance with Thilana in Brindavani based on M. Balamuralikrishna’s composition Aadi Taala.

The evening’s orchestra included G Vijayaraghavan on mridangam, Chithambari Krishnakumar on vocals, Kalaiyarasan Ramanathan on violin and Vijay Kumar S on nattuvangam.
