The Kerala Film Producers Association (KFPA) has deployed moral hackers to investigate the growing threat of movie piracy.

Hackers engaged by the association include tracking them behind the suspected leakage of an online version L2: EmpuranA few hours after release on 27 March, B. Rakesh, KFPA Secretary said on Friday.

He said that the co-producer of the film, Ashirvad Cinemas had filed a complaint before the Kerala Police’s cyber wing, appeared online after the suspected pirated version of the film.

Mr. Rakesh said that moral hackers have been asked to deploy a digital tracking tool to monitor and identify video piracy. He said that they use technologies to share and download copyright content on the file-sharing network, he said.

KFPA said that strict legal measures would be initiated against the people involved in the theft. Such steps will also be taken against those involved in downloading and sharing the pirated versions of films.

Mr. Rakesh urged the government to take his action against video piracy. “The danger can be regulated, if the authorities initiate strong action against the violations. We have requested the government to set up a dedicated team of police personnel to track them behind such illegal acts,” he said.
