IT department notices actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran

The Income Tax (IT) department has sought further clarification from actor-director Prithviraj Sukumaran, actor-director related to his income earned from some films released earlier.
It is learned that the actor was given notice in the last week of March by the IT department in Kochi. The actor has been asked to submit his response before the end of April. Explanation is sought related to some films, which they had previously co-produced.
The actor-director attacked the references of the 2002 Gujarat Pogrome in his latest directing venture by right-wing elements about the attack of right-wing elements L2: Empuran Mohanlal hit the screen on 27 March.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) discovered on Friday (April 4, 2025) in the offices of Kerala-based businessman Gokulam Gopalan, one of the film’s makers and some of the other alleged foreign currency violations cases were in some other offices as part of the case.
It is learned that the Income Tax Department has served notice as part of follow -up action in connection with the investigation initiated against some individuals in the Malayalam film industry in December 2022.
IT Sleiths then raided several places, including filmmakers’ residences and offices, including Antony Permbavur, Anto Joseph and Listin Stephen to invest suspected tax evasion, infallible cash transactions and real estate abroad. The premises of Prithviraj Sukumaran were also inspected as part of the raid.
The latest notice served on Prithviraj Sukumaran seems to be a follower of the investigation related to the suspected tax evasion initiated by the department in December 2022.
