InFocus Vision 3 Pro Review

InFocus launched the first 18:9 display smartphone Vision 3 last year. After this, we got to see many companies launching 18:9 display phones in 2018, which caught our attention. Vision 3 was a good looking phone but was quite weak in its price range. However, things changed and handsets like Redmi 5, Redmi Note 5 and Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 arrived.

To compete with all these, InFocus has launched Vision 3 Pro, but is this phone capable of competing with the smartphones available in the market? We investigated…

InFocus Vision 3 Pro Design

The body of InFocus Vision 3 is made of plastic but it seems to have been upgraded. It has a metal backplate at the back, which gives a premium feel as soon as you hold the phone in your hand. There are plastic caps for the antenna at the top and bottom. There is a 5.7-inch display at the front, which has a good combination of colors and the viewing angles are also good. The display is clearly visible even in sunlight. There is an option to adjust the color temperature. Also, the display output can also be changed from standard to dynamic.

The buttons on the Vision 3 Pro are a little too high, which is why you have to stretch your thumb a lot. In the Vision 3 Pro, InFocus has placed the micro-USB port on the bottom. There are two grills along with it, of which the loudspeaker is present on the left. The 3.55 mm headphone jack is provided on the top. The selfie camera is on one edge. The notification LED is provided next to the earpiece.

There is a hybrid dual SIM tray on the left side of the phone, in which 1 micro-slot is for the first SIM and the other is for the next nano slim. Memory card can be used in the second slot. Vision 3 Pro has dual cameras and an LED flash at the back. Fingerprint scanner is also provided at the back.

The 18:9 aspect ratio makes the phone tall and slim, making it very easy to hold. It has round edges and the phone is quite light. In the box, the user gets a micro-USB cable, 7.5 watt charger, earphones. The quality of the accessories is not good and the sound quality of the headphones is not that good.

InFocus Vision 3 Pro Specifications and Features

The features given in the phone justify the ‘Pro’ in its title. The phone works on MediaTek MT6750 processor, while Vision 3 comes with MediaTek MT6737H. The phone has an octacore processor. The processor is new and has so far been seen in Asus ZenFone 3S Max and Vivo V5s, which were launched last year. The phone has 4 GB RAM and 64 GB storage, which can be expanded up to 128 GB. InFocus Vision 3 Pro supports 4G and VoLTE works in both its SIMs.

InFocusVision3ProSoftware

In terms of software, the phone runs on Android 7.0 Nougat, which has become outdated since the arrival of Android Oreo. InFocus has added some customizations to its OS. Due to this, there is no app drawer in it and all the apps remain on the homescreen. Bloatware has been kept low, so that the user can enjoy Amazon Shopping, Prime Video, UC Browser, MKey Keyboard. The relief is that all these can also be uninstalled.

InFocus Vision 3 Pro performance, camera and battery life

The performance of Vision 3 Pro is much better than Vision 3. The processor is new and is capable of giving a better experience. Messages on social media and general web browsing are better with its help. However, the phone hangs due to some apps running in the background, which is annoying despite having 4 GB RAM. Vision 3 Pro easily supports normal games, but games like Shadow Fight 3 start hanging in it.

Battery life depends on your usage. It gets drained quickly when you play games, heavy apps etc. We found that the phone gets heated up after playing games for 15 minutes. In our video loop test, Vision 3 Pro lasted for 12 hours and 8 minutes. With normal use, it lasts a full day. If you play games, it is difficult for the phone to last a full day, you will need a charger for some time.

Vision 3 Pro has a dual camera setup at the back. It is a 13+8 megapixel sensor, which comes with a wide angle lens. Apart from the standard photo and video mode, time-lapse, beauty, panorama, pro modes have been added to it. HDR is available but it takes some time. We expected a little faster response from it. The pictures taken from the primary sensor were good but there was a lack of clarity in landscape shots. The secondary sensor gives the user a wider frame with the help of a wide angle lens. There is a lack of detail here too. The secondary sensor equipped with autofocus is slower than the primary. There was a slight hindrance in taking portrait pictures. Its edge detection needs improvement. Macro shots were better. In these, the difference between the subject and the background was clearly visible.

Camera performance is not good in low light. Vision 3 Pro manages to control noise but the detail is lost. Video recording goes up to 1080p, which is supported by both the cameras. But Redmi Note 5 offers 4K video recording in this list. There is no stabilization feature here, so you need to keep your hand steady. The 13-megapixel selfie camera takes good pictures. Beauty modes get activated automatically. You may lose details in selfies by zooming in but still you get pictures worth sharing on social media.

Decision

Vision 3 Pro is an upgrade over its previous smartphone Vision 3, which has a powerful processor and more RAM. However, the competition has increased due to Redmi 5 and Redmi Note 5. The recently launched Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 also challenges the Vision 3 Pro at Rs 10,999. If you are looking for a budget smartphone in the market, then you can skip Vision 3 Pro and go for ZenFone Max Pro M1.
