India to host Deepsek on local servers to remove privacy concerns: IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav | Mint

Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has praised the Chinese Startup Deepsek for shaking the AI world with a budget -friendly approach. Speaking at an event in Odisha, he said that the success of Deepsak shows that AI can be made without spending luck – some India is also targeting it.

In order to deal with the concerns of privacy about the Deepsek, Vaishnav assured that India would host AI on its local servers while keeping the data safe. His comments come as India moves forward with its $ 1.25 billion India AI Mission, which was launched in March. The initiative is designed to support AI startups, drive innovation and to make India’s own AI model in the coming months.

As part of the scheme, the government has established 18,693 graphics processing units (GPU) to promote computing power. Vaishnav also announced a new AI Safety Institute to ensure that AI has been used responsibly.

Deepsek has surprised the AI world by creating a powerful model in just two months with Using Nvidia’s H800 chips. This proves that big AI successes do not always require a big budget.

The Chinese app recently crossed the chatgpt of Openai in the download on Apple’s app store, while the cost and performance of its equipment challenged the assumptions of the industry that China had been from American contestants in the AI race for years.

Vaishnav’s comments have returned the spotlight to OpenAII CEO Sam Altman, who visited India last year and suspected if an Indian team could manufacture a strong AI model with just $ 10 million. After Deepsek’s success, his comments are running again.

“Some people question how much the government is spending on India AI Mission. But Deepsek-$ 5.5 million and actually look at a powerful model, thanks for all smart planning,” Vaishnav said.

Altman is ready to visit India again on 5 February, while Openai is currently facing a court case in India on copyright issues with digital publishers. His visit is expected to have a new discussion about India’s AI visit.
