How powerful is Vivo V20? At first glance…
One thing that has been quite unusual with Vivo is that it has always used odd numbers for its smartphones. The V series smartphones so far include the Vivo V15, Vivo V17 and the recently launched V19. So will the company change this practice in 2020? At present, the indications are in this direction.
The name of Vivo V20 is also different and its design approach is also new. The new Vivo V20 smartphone is thinner than Vivo V19 and it comes with a dewdrop notch instead of a hole-punch camera, which seems to indicate that the company has taken some steps back. Talking about the back of the Vivo V20, it will look like its rear panel design is similar to the Vivo X50 smartphone, which has a stepped design for the camera module. The Vivo V20 phone has a triple rear camera setup, whose primary camera is located at the top while the other two cameras are present below the primary camera. However, like the Vivo X50 Pro, you will not get a gimbal stabilization system in this phone. This camera module has a silver accent, which gives a premium look.
The Vivo V20 comes in three colour options, namely Moonlight Sonata, Midnight Jazz, and Sunset Melody. We have the Sunset Melody unit with us which has a gradient finish on the back. As light hits the back panel, the colours change from blue to purple and purple to orange at different angles. It is definitely more attractive than the other variants. This version is slightly thicker at 7.48mm and weighs 1 gram more than the other two variants. Vivo offers a glass back which feels premium and has a matte finish that resists fingerprints.
Vivo V20 has a 6.44-inch AMOLED display with a 20:9 aspect ratio and thin borders on all sides. It has full-HD + (1,080×2,400 pixels) resolution and HDR10 support. This phone also has an in-display fingerprint scanner. The power and volume buttons are placed on the right side of the screen, which is very easy to reach even with one hand. Let us tell you, the power button has a textured finish, which differentiates it from the volume button.
This Vivo phone is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor, which has 8 GB of RAM. We have used this processor in Redmi Note 9 Pro and it is capable of providing good performance. Vivo has provided 128 GB of storage in Vivo V20. If this storage is not enough for you, then you can also increase it up to 1 TB. For the base variant of the phone, you will have to pay Rs 24,990, while if you want to buy its high-end variant, then you will have to spend Rs 27,990.
Talking about the software, Vivo V20 is one of the few smartphones that run on Android 11. This phone works on FuntouchOS 11 based on Android 11 and our unit was equipped with the September Android security patch. The UI of the phone was quite familiar and very easy to use. Three-button navigation is enabled by default, but you also have the option to switch to swipe gestures. Vivo V20 also has some pre-installed apps and during setup, there is also a suggestion to download some other apps which we skipped.
Talking about the camera setup of Vivo V20, it has a 64-megapixel primary sensor with f / 1.89 lens, an 8-megapixel secondary sensor with f / 2.2 ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2-megapixel monochrome sensor with f / 2.4 lens. It has a 44-megapixel selfie sensor with f / 2.0 ‘Eye Autofocus’ lens. Vivo V series is known for its selfie-focused smartphones, so it will be interesting to see how V20 performs.
If you are excited about the battery, you will be happy to know that Vivo has packed a 4,000mAh battery in this phone. Although this is less than some other smartphones we have tested recently, it can still be considered average for a modern smartphone. Apart from this, you also get a 33W FlashCharge USB Type-C quick charger in the smartphone box.
