The Trump administration on Friday announced that the Gulf of Mexico was renamed to the US to be renamed, but the popular mapping services of Google and Apple have continued to show the old name.
On Monday, Google said that as soon as the US government updated its official maps, it would update its maps to display the Gulf of the US.

President Trump signed an executive order on 20 January, in addition to changing the name of the highest mountain in North America, to change the name of the Gulf. The Shikhar, known by Alaska’s original name Denali since 2015, was renamed Mount McCinley, which was earlier named.
Interior US Department Said on friday This was implementing the executive order, but that the official government maps were yet to be updated from the geographical name information system, or GNIS, which is a part of the American Geological Survey.
Google said that once GNIS made changes, it would follow the suit in its popular map application, which is an important source of information about geography for more than two billion users. The company said it will also change the name of Alaska, in Alaska, according to the change of new administration, which is in Alaska.
While the Google users in the United States will see the Gulf named America, people in Mexico will continue to look at the “Gulf of Mexico”, which is how this country refers to the body of water.
Somewhere else in the world will look at both user names together, the company said it has been described as “long practice”. The name of Mexico would appear first to these users, followed by the US Gulf name in the brackets, said two people with knowledge of the company’s plans, who were not authorized to speak publicly.
Google refused to comment on the order of names. Apple’s representatives did not respond to the remarks request whether the company would adopt the Gulf of Gulf for its map application.
