Cinema may play a role in violence in society, but it is not a source: Union Minister Suresh Gopi

Union Minister Suresh Gopi admitted on Saturday (March 1, 2025) that cinema could play a role in the violence in the society, but it cannot be said that films were the source of the same.

For Petroleum, Natural Gas and Tourism, Union Minister of State Shri Gopi said that people watching the film should not only see it, they need to understand it.

The minister, who is also an actor, said that he cannot say that violence should not be painted in films or it should be reduced, but people need to understand that what is being shown is “not for entertainment and they need to learn that such tasks are not good”.

“Just look at the film, understand the film,” he said.

Shri Gopi was answering questions from reporters here on the role of cinema in examples of violence in the society.

Earlier this week, senior Congress leader in Kerala Ramesh Chennite said that like Malayalam action films RDX And Marco In a large way “encouraging people, especially the youth, to become violent”.

Shri Gopi also said that every child born in a family is an property for the nation and everyone, including political parties, government and people, should work together to ensure that they all have good physical and mental health and realize their full potential.

“Every child is born in a family called Rashtra. None of them should be lost,” he said in a clear context of the death of a school child due to injuries in a conflict between students near a private tuition center in Kozhikode.
