California -based tech giant Apple has increased the cost of its applecare+ membership plans for all iPhone models in the United States. This price growth affects both standard and theft and loss schemes, but does not extend to other Apple devices such as iPad, Mac or Apple Watch.

Price increase details

This development comes amidst speculation that Apple plans to phase up two and three years of membership plans in favor of monthly and annual options.

Applecare+ standard scheme for the base iPhone 16 model was earlier available $ 7.99 per month, but now it is $ 8.49. Similarly, the iPhone 16 Pro model has seen an increase of $ 9.99 to $ 10.49 per month. This represents a slight increase of 50 cents for each level.

Applecare+ standard expands hardware repair coverage for two years from one year warranty and provides contingent damage protection. It also includes technical assistance of 90 days. However, the amendment applies only to membership pricing, with the service fee and the remaining unchanged. The initial cost for repair such as screen or back glass damage is $ 29.

Shift towards membership-based model

Apple’s latest step aligns with a comprehensive strategy to prioritize the membership-based model over a one-time purchase. Reports suggest that the company is preparing to shut down the up-front Applecare+ purchase options for iPhones, iPads, MACS and other devices in its retail stores. Currently, customers can buy Applecare+ with a new device or within a limited period after purchase, but this option may be removed soon.

Additionally, Apple is expected to eliminate the ability to buy Applecare+ directly from the iPhone or iPad. Although this change is expected to be in later phase, customers may soon be able to secure a long -term plan when purchasing from Apple online store at the time of purchase.
