Apple can integrate the in-house 5G modem completely by 2028: Mark Gurman | Mint

California-based tech veteran Apple is allegedly carrying forward its efforts to reduce dependence on Qualcomm by integrating its in-house 5G modem directly into its chipset. According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Tech Giants are currently testing the successors of their first ownership modem, which is expected to have complete integration by 2028.

After much speculation, Apple unveiled its inauguration 5G modem, C1 with the iPhone 16E. However, unlike Qualcomm’s modem, C1 currently has a separate place on the motherboard, which affects energy efficiency and cost-efficiency. Sources suggest that Apple is already testing the next generation C2 and C3 modem, already, expected to debut in the 2026 iPhone lineups in the east.

Despite this progress, Apple’s modem technology is not allegedly equal to Qualcomm. It can explain why the company did not insist on the launch of its first modem with the iPhone 16E. While Apple has postponed C1 as “the most power-efficient modem” in an iPhone, the efficiency of measuring remains complex.

Several media reports believe that Apple could overcome Qualcomm’s modem technology with its third repetition, anticipated in 2027. Till then, the modem is expected to live in a separate slot within the device. However, the plan of complete integration in Apple’s chipset is not up to 2028, which is part of a long -term strategy aimed at increasing energy efficiency and reducing manufacturing costs.

A notable limit of the C1 modem of Apple is a lack of support for mmwave, which is important for a high frequency band for ultra-fast data speed. This lapse can reduce the download and upload speed compared to the iPhone equipped with Qualcomm Modem.

Apple’s ongoing push towards self -sufficiency in semiconductor technology is seen as a strategic move to gain more control over hardware development. If successful, this infection can not only reduce dependence on external suppliers, but can also improve overall device performance and efficiency in the coming years.
