After investigation in Italy and France, Deepsek faced South Korean inquiry on data secrecy issues

South Korea’s Data Protection Authority has announced that it will seek clarification from the Chinese tech startup Deepsek about handling users’ personal information. This has come after the company unveiled its powerful new AI Chatbot, R1, which has expressed concern over data privacy and has bouncing in the global technical markets.
The R1 Chatbot of Deepsek is being postponed as a major challenger for the AI system developed in the United States, offering comparable abilities at a fraction of the cost. The launch has sent shockwaves through the technical industry, with a 17 percent increase in major companies such as Nvidia Pluting earlier this week. Chatbott’s rapid advancement has inspired to investigate heavy investments made by American firms in AI technology in recent years.
A spokesperson of South Korea’s Personal Information Protection Commission confirmed the AFP that they would formally request information from Deepsek about AI’s data processing practices. However, the request details have not yet been disclosed.
The company’s R1 model has also attracted attention from regulators in Europe. The Italian Data Protection Agency launched an investigation into AI of Deepsek, blocking the processing of personal data from Italian users. Officials are eager to determine the origin of the data used to train the chatbot and whether users have been sufficiently informed how their data is handled, especially if it is scored from the Internet .
Similarly, France’s CNIL Data Watchdog announced that it would attach to the AI system to understand the possible risks associated with data processing mechanisms.
Deepsek, which uses low-up-up H800 chips-was allowed to sell China under US export control by 2023-its model has been made on a much smaller investment than its American counterparts Is. Despite using low advanced technology, AI’s impressive performance has increased eyebrows among industry experts, especially given the ability to rival American AI progression.
The uncertainty around Deepsek’s AI has caused important waves in the South Korean stock market. Samsung Electronics shares declined by more than 2 percent, while SK Heinix saw a decline of nearly 12 percent, with analysts promoting increasing apprehensions about the influence of the rise of Deepsek on the global AI landscape.
