Meta wants to block further sales of dreaded memoirs of pre-employees

Meta on Wednesday won a legal victory against a former employee, publishing an explosive, all the memoirs, temporarily prevented the author from promoting or distributing further copies.

Sarah Vyan-Viliums released the last week “careless Peepal: A Caritory Tail of Power, Greed and Lost Idealism”, a book that describes a series of allegations of sexual harassment and other inappropriate behavior by senior officials during its tenure in the company. Meta pursued arbitration, arguing that the book is prohibited under a nondisparagment contract signed as an employee of global affairs.

During an emergency hearing on Wednesday, Nicholas Goven found that Meta provided enough grounds that Ms. Vyan-Viliams had probably violated their contracts according to the legal filing posted by Meta. Both sides will now start private arbitration.

In addition to preventing book promotion and sales, Ms. Vinn-Villiams should avoid engaging in “any forward uneven, important or otherwise harmful comments”, according to the filing. He should also “withdraw all the previous uneven comments to the extent of his control to the extent of his control.”

The filing publisher, Flatiron Books, or its original company, did not appear to limit McMillan to the continuous publication of memoirs.

Meta has denied the allegations in the book.

“The book” is a mixture of out-of-date about the company and false allegations about our officials, “Meta spokesperson Andy Stone said in a statement. Ms. Vyan-Williams were fired for reason, said, and at that time a investigation determined that” she created misleading and allegations of harassment. “

A spokesperson of the Flatiron Books did not immediately respond to the remarks request. A spokesperson of Ms. Vyan-Viliums, who then called Facebook from 2011 to 2018, did not comment.

The move to publish arbitration filing is one of the most powerful public protests of all memoirs of a former employee, many of which have been published in the last two decades.

Meta officials have also responded online to the claims of Ms. Vyan-Viliums, most of them are called exaggerated or flat-outs wrong.

It is not clear whether the attempt to bring back the book of Ms. Vyan-Villiams of Meta will eventually be successful. In 2023, the National Labor Relations Board ruled that it is generally illegal illegal to companies, which prevent workers from making potentially derogatory statements about former employers, including to discuss allegations of sexual harassment or sexual assault.

In a meta shareholder report in 2022, the company’s board of directors said that it did not require employees to “keep quiet about harassment or discrimination”, and the company strictly stops retaliation against any personnel “to speak on these issues”.

And in 2018, Meta stated that it would no longer force employees to settle sexual harassment claims in private arbitration, after a similar stance taken by Google at that time.
