Suraj Barjatya revealed that Karisma Kapoor was his first choice for ‘Hum Aapke Han Cans’, but his father had a concern – The Times of India

Filmmaker Soraj Barjatya recently made an interesting revelation about his 90s blockbusters’We one..!, ‘Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit starred. While the film remains an evergreen favorite, with its story, songs and the chemistry between Prem and Nisha by cinefiles, some know that Madhuri was not the first choice for Nisha.
During a special episode of Indian Idol, Barjatya shared that he initially considered Karisma Kapoor for the role.

He recalled that Karishma personally called her to watch her film Prem Kayidi, and after seeing her performance, she was impressed. Returning home, he told his father, “He has a lot of ability. We are still in the writing phase of ‘Hum Aapke Han Coun’, and we need to cast someone for Nisha’s role.”
However, his father, Rajkumar Barjati, was hesitant. He felt that Karishma was too young for this role, stating that she would have to accept Mohanish Bahl’s children as her on-screen, which could be a huge responsibility for someone. He advised, “Let’s take someone who can take that weight on his shoulders.”
Finally, Madhuri Dixit was inserted as Nisha, and her portrayal became one of the most famous performances in Bollywood history. Even Karishma later admitted that she was of the right age, she preferred to play the role.
